Christian Ex-QB Jon Kitna is Making $53,000 to Play 1 Week in the NFL - This is What He's Doing With the Money
Backup NFL quarterback isn't a bad gig if you can get it. Take 41-year-old Jon Kitna, who retired from the Dallas Cowboys in 2012 after 15 years in the NFL. He now teaches math and coaches football at Lincoln High School in his hometown of Tacoma, Wash.
Kitna seems to have a knack for coaching, just finishing the season at 8-2 with his son Jordan as his starting quarterback. This is up from the 5-5 record his first year.
And his success in the classroom is even more remarkable. When he agreed to work at Lincoln, he asked the principal to round up the worst students – the ones other teachers didn't want – and give them to him. The staff tried to talk him out of it, but he wouldn't have it. At the end of his first year, his students went from disinterested troublemakers to the second-highest scoring on the school's math assessments.

When the news came out last week that Dallas star QB Tony Romo was out for the year from a back injury, Kitna saw an opportunity to help his old team. He talked to Cowboys coach Jason Garrett and re-joined the team for this week only to back up Kyle Orton, who will start in Romo's place.
For his week of work in Dallas, Kitna will earn $53,000, which he will donate to Lincoln High, where an estimated 85% of the students live below the poverty line.
For those who know Kitna, this is no surprise. An outspoken Christian, he has devoted his life after the NFL to serving the young people at the high school where he was a star quarterback in the early '90s.
