A Christian student who was expelled by the University of Sheffield for saying on Facebook that homosexuality is a sin recently won his appeal.

The Court of Appeal in England ruled in favor of Felix Ngole, two years after a Deputy High Court judge had upheld the university’s right to expel him from a master’s degree program in social work.

The appeals court ruled that the university “wrongly confused the expression of religious views with the notion of discrimination.” The school has been ordered to hold a new hearing for Ngole.

—Liberal UMC regional body rejects cutting funds to overseas conservative churches

A liberal regional body of the United Methodist Church rejected a proposal to cut funds intended to help churches overseas. The California-Nevada Annual Conference also voted against withdrawing from the denomination.

The regional body said withholding funds from Methodists outside of the U.S. would be racist.

“In fact, this withholding is primarily expressed in Caucasian congregations whose perception is that their entitlement to control others with money is an expression of white privilege,” the Conference said.

The vote comes months after United Methodists reaffirmed its stance against same-sex marriage and the ordination or noncelibate homosexuals.
