The organization Richards led from 2006 to 2018 issued a statement Monday in response to the news of her passing, calling their former leader the embodiment of “Care, no matter what.”

“We are heartbroken to lose the indomitable force that is our former president, Cecile Richards,” Planned Parenthood stated. “In her 12 devoted years of service to our org, she brought us to new heights in our health care, education, and advocacy work.”

“As the reproductive freedom movement navigates unchartered territory, we know Cecile would tell us the best way to honor her memory is to suit up (in pink!), link arms, and fight like hell for the health and rights of all people,” the corporation wrote in a follow-up post

In November 2024, Mary Szoch, director of the Center for Human Dignity at Family Research Council, urged Christians to pray for Richards following the revelation that the former Planned Parenthood leader had brain cancer.

Szoch wrote in an op-ed piece for The Christian Post, “We should pray for her to repent. We know that conversion is real — Saul became Paul. Our God is a loving and forgiving Father, and there is no sin too great for His mercy.”

The pro-life advocate also noted that when Richards came into office, Planned Parenthood carried out 264,943 abortions per year. By the time Richards left in 2018, the number of abortions conducted by Planned Parenthood each year had increased by almost 70,000.
