4 things to know about the California recall election

California Gov. Gavin Newsom will be the subject of a recall vote next Tuesday, marking only the fourth gubernatorial recall election in United States history.

Although the Democrat was elected California’s governor in 2018 in a landslide, critics secured enough signatures by April to trigger a recall election.

According to an analysis of polling data by FiveThirtyEight, updated on Sunday, 53% of Californians want Newsom to remain governor. Meanwhile, 42.6% want to remove him from office. The RealClear Politics average of polls taken over the last month found that 52.4% of California voters want Newsom to remain in office and 43.8% want him removed.
