‘Honor all life’: 7 Christian leaders react to Supreme Court overturning Roe
The United States Supreme Court overturned the 1973 landmark decision Roe v. Wade in a decision that upheld a Mississippi law banning most abortions after 15 weeks into a pregnancy.
In a 6-3 ruling released Friday, the high court concluded that the previous Roe decision as well as Planned Parenthood v. Casey had wrongfully identified abortion as a constitutional right.
"Held: The Constitution does not confer a right to abortion; Roe and Casey are overruled; and the authority to regulate abortion is returned to the people and their elected representatives," read the syllabus to the majority opinion.
The decision has already garnered numerous reactions from politicians, activists and clergy, with opinions ranging from celebration to sadness.
Here are seven reactions to the Supreme Court overturning Roe from various Christian faith leaders. They include a member of Congress, the niece of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., and the son of the Rev. Billy Graham.
