The United States Supreme Court overturned the 1973 landmark decision Roe v. Wade in a decision that upheld a Mississippi law banning most abortions after 15 weeks into a pregnancy.

In a 6-3 ruling released Friday, the high court concluded that the previous Roe decision as well as Planned Parenthood v. Casey had wrongfully identified abortion as a constitutional right.

"Held: The Constitution does not confer a right to abortion; Roe and Casey are overruled; and the authority to regulate abortion is returned to the people and their elected representatives," read the syllabus to the majority opinion.
