Al Gore Goes on 'Bullsh**t' Rant on Global Warming
Former Vice President Al Gore, has gone on a passionate tirade at the Aspen Institute of Technology about skeptics of global warming and the methods they deploy to promote their own policy and business agendas in the United States.
Gore attended a conference last week on Communications and Society in Aspen upon the request of another friend. He used his segment to discuss relevant topics to the conference including the history of communication and civic discourse. However, Gore also used his time on stage to delve into another topic that he is passionate about, global warming.
Gore argued that those that do not believe in, or choose to disregard, the risks of global warming are now utilizing the same tactics of information distortion used by the tobacco industry in its early days to dismantle arguments against the health risks of smoking.
“Some of the exact same people, by name, I can go down a list of their names, are involved in this. And so what do they do? They pay pseudo scientists to pretend to put out the message: This climate thing, it’s nonsense. Man-made CO2 doesn’t trap heat. It may be volcanoes,” said Gore.
Gore argued, “Bulls**t.”
Gore continued to express his dismay on the topic stating, “There is no longer shared reality on an issue like climate, even though the very existence of our civilization is threatened.”
Gore argued that the topic of climate change has been “polluted” as a result of specifically targeted organized activity that has made the topic a debate, as opposed to a widely recognized imminent reality.
He urged the audience to not believe global warming skeptics.
Christians typically have been reluctant to agree with global warming arguments, even though Gore himself is a Christian and a member of a Protestant Church.
In a 2009 poll by the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life, only 34 percent of evangelical Christians in the United States believed that there existed solid evidence that global warming is an environmental reality.
Nevertheless, Christians throughout the U.S. remain divided on the issue of global warming with some groups supporting it as a scientific reality while others find that the global warming argument challenges the tenants of their faith.
Some evangelical Christian leaders including Rick Warren, author of “The Purpose Driven Life,” have backed global warming initiatives. One statement released by a group of several evangelical leaders stated, “Millions of people could die in this century because of climate change, most of them our poorest global neighbors.”
However, other leaders retaliated to that particular statement arguing, “Global warming is not a consensus issue.”
The global warming and Christianity debate is not likely to find a consensus any time sooner than the scientific and business debate on same the issue.
