Favre may Join the Eagles

As the NFL season is reinstated, Michael Vick has tweeted that he would love to have 20-year veteran Brett Favre join him on the Philadelphia Eagles.

“I would be honored to have Brett Favre as a backup,” tweeted Vick, the first African-American picked as overall draft pick in the NFL. “That will be amazing learning how to toy with defenses the way he did his whole career.”

Although Vick deleted his tweets, the messages caused a number of sports analysts and fans to speculate about Favre’s next move.

Jeff McLane, a reporter from Philly.com, said any rumors about Favre’s move to Philly are far-fetched. According to McLane “a lot of things would need to fall into place” for Favre to put on an Eagle uniform.

However, some believe it is possible for the 41-year-old Favre to return for his 21st season.

Howard Eskin, a Philadelphia sports personality for WIP-AM 610, spoke to NBC 10 this weekend about the possibility.

Andy Reid, Eagles coach spent seven seasons with Favre in Green Bay and developed a relationship with the quarterback. However, Favre publicly retired from the league.

Although this would not be the first or second time that Favre spoke about ending his NFL career, Bus Cook, Favre’s agent said his client had yet to speak about a 21st season.

“Brett Favre retired in January,” Cook said to the Clarion Ledger. “He has not talked to any teams...he has not talked to anyone about playing football. He’s retired, period.”

Favre holds the record for most career touchdown passes, passing yards, career pass completions, pass attempts, career interceptions thrown, consecutive starts as a player and QB and career victories. With such an impressive record, Skip Bayless, a sports analyst for ESPN, said he is not surprised with all of the Favre fanfare taking place.

“In a chaotic situation a team that gets left without a quality backup will say, Brett Favre,” Bayless said. “I think he’s going to be a pretty hot commodity. I think he could get a shot somewhere as a stop-gap starting quarterback.”
