'God' Tells Al Harris to Retire From NFL

Al Harris, St. Louis Rams’ cornerback who has played in the league for 14 years, recently revealed that God has told him to retire.

Harris, who has not been able to play since undergoing a season-ending injury to his anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee last November, said he believes the impairment was a sign from God. On Wednesday, the CB officially announced his retirement from the league where he has made two Pro Bowl appearances.

"As far as playing, I think that was my last play," Harris said Wednesday. "I just planted wrong. That's just God's way of telling me its time for me to turn the page."

The 37-year-old also thanked a higher power for the opportunity to work with his coaching staff.

"I thank God for Spags [Rams coach Steve Spagnuolo] giving me the opportunity to come out, and I hope I left a positive impression on everybody," Harris said.

Fans on Twitter have reacted to the veteran CB's retirement announcement.

"Good luck Al," one fan tweeted. "Thanks for a great career, and hope to see you on the sidelines soon."

The CB, who has played for the Philadelphia Eagles, Green Bay Packers and Miami Dolphins, ends his NFL career with 423 tackles, 21 interceptions and three touchdowns. Now that his NFL career is over, Harris told reporters that he would love the opportunity to coach.

“That's what I am going to come back to do ... coach,” Harris told reporters. “I have my mind made up on that. Professionally, I think I hit every single goal I set out for myself, so now it's time to turn the page and set a new set of goals."

Whatever the next move for Harris may be, he was adamant about keeping football in his life.

“This is what I do,” Harris said. “This is what I love to do.”
