Ice Cream Sandwich Release Date: Is it Better Than iOS 5?

The two most anticipated operating systems of this year have finally arrived with Apple’s iOS 5 and Google’s Android 4.0, also known as Ice Cream Sandwich.

iOS 5 became available for Apple users on Oct. 12 via download and Ice Cream Sandwich was unveiled this morning at Samsung and Google’s “Mobile Unpacked” event in Hong Kong, and will officially be released with on the Galaxy Nexus smartphone in November.

While iOS 5 impressed in many areas including its new iMessage texting fee free feature and upgraded notification center, Ice Cream Sandwich is also packed with an arsenal of upgrades and capabilities.

Ice Cream Sandwich’s appearance is second to none with Roboto, its new graphics foundation which provides great detail on pictures and text, making it crystal clear for those with eye problems.

Unlocking a device running Ice Cream Sandwich is now as simple as pointing the front camera to a user's face with the new facial recognition feature.

The system scans the user’s face, and if it does not match up to the owner, it will not give them access to the smartphone.

iOS 5 fails to innovate in this area.

Ice Cream Sandwich also gives the user simple access to their apps by including a left and right swipe capability.

By simply moving their finger in a certain direction, the user can gain access to their apps and content.

iOS 5 sticks to the traditional methods of opening apps.

The new Android OS also allows the user to scroll through their tabs and close them by simply flicking them off the screen.

Screen shots from the device can also be captured on Ice Cream Sandwich by simultaneously pressing the power and volume down buttons.

So if a user has a high score in a game that they want others to see, they can take a screen shot of it as send it to whomever they wish.
