iPhone 5 Release Date: AT&T Still the Best Carrier for iPhone Users
With the rumor mill full of iPhone 5 myths for the new device, many say AT&T seems like the best carrier in town for iPhone users to go with, and when the next-generation version drops, the company probably will not miss a beat.
Despite other carriers picking up the iPhone 4S, AT&T’s share in the iPhone market remains unscathed, according to AT&T executive Glen Lurie.
Lurie revealed to market watch that the carrier’s churn rate has remained steady since Verizon and Sprint began making the iPhone available to their customers earlier this year.
Some analysts expected AT&T to experience customers canceling their service and jumping ship, but according to Lurie, that was not the case.
“Churn has not moved at all,” said Lurie to MarketWatch.
Churn is a term used to show the number of customers who decided to cancel their service.
Luria also added that AT&T’s relationship with Apple has remained positive, meaning the company will probably play a large role in launching the iPhone 5, especially since the new device is rumored to be 4G LTE. AT&T is currently hard at work perfecting its LTE network.
He reported that United States customers have been waiting over a week to receive an iPhone 4S from AT&T.
AT&T’s main advantage over other carriers is its data speed, because the network supports HSPA+ technology.
AT&T is able to offer significantly faster speeds for the iPhone 4S opposed to other networks, such as Sprint who uses CDMA networks.
Sprint received complaints over slower data speeds since the company released the iPhone 4S.
Apple’s iPhone 5 is expected to launch in 2012 and is rumored to be 4G LTE ready.
