Lindsay Mills, Edward Snowden's Girlfriend, Left Behind by NSA Whistleblower
Lindsay Mills, the rumored girlfriend of Edward Snowden, feels "adrift" without him. Snowden fled to Hong Kong after going public with information about the National Security Agency spying on people.
"My world has opened and closed all at once," Mills wrote on her blog "L's Journey." "As I type this on my tear-streaked keyboard I'm reflecting on all the faces that have graced my path. The ones I laughed with. The ones I've held. The one I've grown to love the most. And the ones I never got to bid adieu. But sometimes life doesn't afford proper goodbyes."
The couple was reportedly together in Hawaii when Snowden fled the country in order to avoid arrest. In an interview with The Guardian, Snowden said he had no regrets about his actions, even though they required him to leave his loved ones.
"I don't want to live in a society that does these sort of things. I do not want to live in a world where everything I do and say is recorded. That is not something I am willing to support or live under. I can't in good conscience allow the U.S. government to destroy privacy, Internet freedom and basic liberties for people around the world with this massive surveillance machine they're secretly building," Snowden explained.
"All my options are bad. I could be rendered by the CIA. I could have people come after me, or any of the third-party partners," Snowden said. "The only thing I can do is sit here and hope the Hong Kong government does not deport me."
Snowden left his hotel in Hong Kong and is believed to be on the run in the country. Meanwhile, Mills remains in Hawaii, having moved there to reportedly keep their relationship going. Journalists flew to Hawaii to learn more about Mills, and it's only a matter of time before authorities also ask to speak with the young woman.
