The smartphone has been available to pre-order since the end of October, and is expected to be one of the most popular phones on sale in the pre-Christmas period.

The smartphone will be launched with the following specs: a dual-core 1.2-GHz processor, 4.3-inch Super AMOLED advanced qHD display, 8-megapixel rear camera with 1080p video recording, HD front-facing camera, and a mobile hotspot support for up to eight Wi-Fi.

Other smartphones to rival the new Razr is Samsung Galaxy Nexus which will be launched with the world’s first Android Ice Cream Sandwich OS, and the HTC Rezound.

Rumors suggest that although the smartphone will be launched with the Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread OS, it will be available for an upgrade to the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich after the new OS is launched on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus.

The original Motorola Razr was the best selling cellphone in America between 2003 to 2007 before iPhones and other Android phones came into the picture. The new Razr will hopefully recapture some of that back.

“Yes, it's another Android phone," writes Kevin Kelleher of Fortune. “But it's one that incorporates the sleek design elements in the hardware that made Motorola's Razr line of clamshell phones the last iconic phone before the rise of the smartphone.”

According to ABC news, Roger Entner of Recon Analytics said: "It's a solid Android device, but it's not going to be that blockbuster that the original Razr was."

Promotional material for the new Razr says the device is made with Kevlar fiber “because a phone this arresting deserves protection.”
