Tim Tebow's Mother Tells of God's Grace in Saving Son's Life
Pam Tebow, mother of New York Jets quarterback Tim Tebow, was the keynote speaker at the Carolina Pregnancy Center fundraiser Tuesday night and shared with those in attendance what she describes as the miraculous story of her son's birth.
Tebow told over 1,750 people at the CPC fundraiser held at the Spartanburg Expo Center in Spartanburg, S.C., that doctors had advised her to abort her now 24-year-old son.
"Twenty-four years ago, a doctor told me that if I didn't have an abortion, I could die," Tebow said. "But me and my husband trusted in God and went against the doctor. God spared the life of me and my son."
Pam Tebow referred to the birth of her son as one created by God.
"The story of our youngest son, Tim, is a God story," she said.
In 2010, Tebow's mother appeared with the NFL quarterback in an anti-abortion Super Bowl commercial that was viewed by an estimated 5.5 million people. Tebow told the crowd at the Carolina Pregnancy Center that the advertisement changed people's perception about abortion, and that God was saving babies.
"God is into saving mothers and babies," she said. "We just have to trust Him."
Tracie Altman, CPC's chairman of the board, spoke about the importance of the Tebows' story.
"For Pam to go through what she did medically with Tim -- it's a lesson that shows that you never know what your baby will be like," Altman said. "It's important to know that your baby is in God's hands, even in tough times."
In 2011, the CPC performed 1,324 pregnancy tests, 29 ultrasounds and saw 1,556 clients, according to the fundraiser program. Altman described the importance of helping young women get closer to Christ while going through a pregnancy or thinking about abortion.
"We are an organization that helps girls through the troubles they are having and to keep them close to Christ and to let them know that there are people who love them and care for them," Altman said. "We do so many different things to help these young girls."
Alexia Newman, director of the Carolina Pregnancy Center, said she was happy with the success of the event that doubled the amount of attendees since last year.
"This is the most full tables we have ever had," she said. "The event not only raises money for the ministry, but it also raises awareness for what we do."
