Verizon Limited Time Offer: Double Data Plan, Same Price for New Customers

Verizon is offering, for a limited time only, “double data” plans for new 4G customers, so users will get twice as much data for the same price.

Customers who choose their 4G smarthphone plans will stay on the deal as long as they keep their phone and service.

Existing customers, however, will only be able to switch to the double data plan if they bought a 4G phone, or upgraded their service, within the last 14 days.

The current monthly data plans from Verizon are split into three categories: $30 for 2 GB, $50 for 5 GB, and $80 for 10 GB. The double-data offer literally doubles the GB limit but keeps the same price – for example, those paying $50 will now get 10 GB of data per month.

Ken Muche, a representative for Verizon, said in an online statement that the promotion applies exclusively to its 4G smartphones, and no other products. One problem is that customers who live in 3G only areas are at a disadvantage, as they will be unable to take advantage of the offer.

Muche also said the end-date for the offer has not yet been decided, but Verizon are likely to take advantage of the coming shopping spree events, such as Black Friday and the Christmas shopping buildup to push their new promotion.

The move is seen as an attempt by Verizon to offer a more enticing deal to its customers, after its unpopular move of removing unlimited data plans in July.

AT&T also split its data plans into limited packages, while T-Mobile decreases the Internet speed of its customers once they pass a certain usage amount. Spring is currently the only smartphone plan provider that offers unlimited packages at a constant speed.
