Adweek's Top Commercials of 2011 Includes Darth Vader Kid (VIDEO)

Adweek ranked the top 10 best commercials of 2011 that aired worldwide, with car companies like Chrysler, Volkswagen and Nissan holding the top spots.

The ads were qualified using various criteria – how funny the ad seemed, how smart the storylines appeared, how well the ad promoted the product, and-in general-how popular they were amongst viewers.

Many of the ads that made it to the top 10 were first aired during the Super Bowl.

The full list, starting from the No. 10 spot, includes:

  • Snickers: "Focus Group"
  • Nissan Leaf: "Gas Powered Everything”
  • Cravendale: "Cats with Thumbs"
  • Deep Silver: "Dead Island Trailer"
  • Canal+: "The Bear"
  • TalkTalk: "Homes within Homes”
  • Google Chrome: "Dear Sophie"
  • Chrysler: "Born of Fire"
  • Chipotle: "Back to the Start"

In addition, the No.1 spot for best commercial went to Volkswagen’s "The Force.” It appealed to "Star Wars" fans everywhere, as it featured a young kid dressed in a full Darth Vader costume and a comical oversized helmet.

The kid wanders around his house trying to manipulate objects with his mind, only to fail each time. His fortunes, however, are reversed when his father secretly activates the car his son tries to move, making the child believe he finally succeeded.
