Barry Llewellyn Dies Aged 64; Jamaican Heptones Founder Passes Away

Barry Llewellyn of the Heptones died this week at the age of 64. Llewellyn, was one of the founding members of a leading Jamaican reggae and rocksteady trio from the 1960s.

The singer’s bandmates confirmed that he died on Wednesday this week. On Friday the band’s lead singer Leroy Sibbles explained that Llewellyn died of unknown causes at Kingston Public Hospital.

The Heptones was a famous band formed in the late 1950’s between Barry Llewellyn and Earl Morgan.

The band grew to have great success and will go down in music history as one of the most influential sources during Jamaica’s rocksteady era in the 1960s

The band split up in the 1970’s, but reunited in the 1990’s after a near two decade absence during a revival of rocksteady music across the globe.

Barry Llewellyn died Wednesday aged 64 and leaves behind his wife, Monica, as well as several children.
