Beyonce's Father Opens Up About Painful Split From Singer

Matthew Knowles, the father and former manager of Beyoncé Knowles, is speaking up about the difficulties that he experienced after severing business ties with his daughter.

After the 32-year-old entertainer spoke about her defunct business relationship with her father earlier this year on "Oprah's Next Chapter" and her documentary "Life Is But a Dream," Mr. Knowles reportedly followed suit.

"It was hard for me to let her go. It was hard for both of us to let each other go," Mr. Knowles recently told "The Sun." "And let's be clear on that. She didn't let me go, we both let each other go. That's a big difference."

Since the pair have a personal relationship, Knowles said the decision to part ways with one another was a difficult one for both father and daughter.

"This was not a normal ending of a business agreement," Mr. Knowles told The Sun. "This was a dad and a daughter, and it was incredibly painful and it had some difficulties."

Beyonce spoke up about the strained business relationship with her father during her appearance on "Oprah's Next Chapter" earlier this year.

"It took a while for me and my dad to have an understanding. When I turned 18 and started handling my business more, he went into shock," she told Winfrey. "And we had our issues. I'd say 'No' to something, and he'd book it anyway."

The singer further explained the strains in her business relationship with her father.

"Then I'd have to do it because I'd look bad [if I didn't]," the singer told Winfrey. "We would fight sometimes, and it took about two years, to when I was 20, for him to realize, 'Oh, she is an adult now, and if she doesn't wanna do something, I can't make her do it.'"

Despite the fact that they no longer work together, Mr. Knowles said he is still proud of his daughter.

"When I see her perform, I am so proud. It reminds me of when she was a kid. I know all of her dreams have come true," Knowles said last month while on HLN's The Showbiz Countdown. "It makes me so proud to see her- an incredible talent. I can tell that special thing when Beyoncé's really happy. It's a certain way she dances, it's a certain smile that she has. And I saw that. It brought tears to my eyes."
