Black Friday 2011: Free iPhones and Androids on Offer

Free iPhones and Android phones and major reductions on the newest models from Apple and HTC headline this year’s Black Friday smartphone deals.

To be clear, buying a smartphone on Black Friday, or any time at all, really shouldn’t be a rushed decision. Many deals that seem unbeatable aren’t as desirable when the phone bill comes to the door. Do some research, talk to some networks and pick what’s right for you or the person on your shopping list.

All this means is that Black Friday is the perfect time to buy someone his or her first phone or to finally make the switch to a network.

Best Buy will give away Apple iPhone 3GS phones for free with the activation of a two-year contract. The iPhone 4 will be priced at $100 for the Verizon, AT&T and Sprint networks.

Both Walmart and Amazon will offer a $100 gift card with the purchase of any smartphone.

Amazon has the most expansive list of smartphones on sale. By signing up for a contract or upgrading their current phones, shoppers can get the HTC Droid Incredible, Motorola DROID X2, HTC ThunderBolt, LG Revolution 4G, Samsung Stratosphere and more, for free.

Newer smartphone models are not free on Amazon, but they are significantly reduced. The HTC Rezound is marked down to $200. The Motorola Droid 3 is down to $60.

It is unlikely the iPhone 4S will see any sales this Black Friday, as it’s too new to discount and retailers will get people into stores with the variety of deals on other smartphones.

T-Mobile will sell all of its phones for less than $50 during their “Magenta Sale” which begins Friday. The HTC Amaze, Samsung Galaxy, HTC Radar, and BlackBerry Bold will be priced at $49.99. The T-Mobile myTouch and Samsung Exhibit are free.
