Brad Pitt Film Cannes Debut: Unlikely to Top Last Year? (VIDEO)

A new film starring Brad Pit and Nicole Kidman is set to premiere in Cannes, the world's biggest film festival.

Cannes is held on the French Riviera; the 2012 film festival will take place from May 16 to May 27, and is by invitation only. Important directors at the festival will include Wes Anderson and Canada's David Cronenberg, with 22 films set to fill the line up.

Pitt will star in "Killing Me Softly," which is directed by New Zealand-born director Andrew Dominik, and co-starring "The Sopranos" star James Gandolfini. In the film Pitt will investigate a heist during a mob-protected poker game

Angelina Jolie will accompany Pitt to the premiere. Other star couples on the invite list include "Twilight" couple Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, Reese Witherspoon and husband Jim Toth, Matthew McConaughey and Camila Alves, and new parents Bruce Willis and Emma Heming.

Pitt has already admitted that he isn't expecting to get another Oscar nomination anytime soon however, after having such a successful year in 2011.

"You've got these awards and there's going to be one winner and four losers, but the four losers made great films," Pitt told The Guardian in an interview before the award ceremony. "A subtle point of 'Moneyball' is that we're a string of successes and failures. Odds are I won't have another year like this for a while."

"The Tree of Life," which stars Pitt, premiered at the Cannes last year and won the Palme d'Or.

Written and directed by Terrence Frederick Malick, some made comments about how strange it was that Malick often failed to promote his own films.

"I don't know why it's accepted that people who make things in our business are then expected to sell them, and I don't think that computes with him," Pitt said last year according to Fox News. "He wants to focus on the making of it, not the real estate, selling the real estate. It is an odd thing for an artist to start something and then be salesman."

This will be the 64th Annual Cannes film festival.
