Spain meanwhile were pushed all the way by fellow European giants, Italy. The rare 0-0 draw for Spain resulted in a penalty shootout in which both teams showed off amazing technique in scoring all 5 of their respective penalties. That led to sudden death and Spain finally managed to come through, and create the final all football fans wanted to see; Spain the currently recognized best team in the world, against Brazil, fondly looked at by most football fans across the globe as arguably the best and most exciting team through the past century.

In team news Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari has reported no injuries following victory their against Uruguay, and could name an unchanged side for the final.

However, some have suggested that Hulk, who has failed to score in his last nine international matches, could lose his spot for the final to give someone more in form a chance – perhaps Bernard or Lucas Moura.

Meanwhile for Spain, Roberto Soldado and Cesc Fabregas missed the semi-final against Italy due to minor muscle problems. However, both players are likely to be available for tonight's final.

This so-called dream final will pit the best of South America against the best of Europe, and it is a relatively rare clash between the footballing giants. The two teams have met just once in the past 23 years, which was a rather dour goalless draw in a 1999 friendly.

However, since that time Spain have gone from strength to strength, and Brazil as ever are always expected by their fans to deliver exciting and winning football against whoever they play against.

Spain are widely recognized to have been the best team in the world over the past decade now, however, many have often pointed out they have no beaten Brazil in that period. This is their chance, and will be the perfect preparations for the current World Cup holders for next year's World Cup in which they will attempt to defend their title in Brazil.

Brazil meanwhile have amazingly not lost a competitive home game since 1975. If they can defeat the Spanish tonight they will seriously undermine Spain's recognition as the best team in the world, and will cement their own legacy as always being the team to beat.

Brazil come into this final in fine goal scoring form. They have scored at least twice in each of their last eight matches now, so fans can expect goals. Over those eight games Brazil have scored an impressive 22 goals.

This match is very unlikely to end in a goalless draw like Spain's semi-final against Italy, as Brazil have scored in 12 consecutive Confederations Cup games, and have won their last 11 matches in the tournament.

If Brazil can win today they would become the first team to win three consecutive Confederations Cup tournaments. At the moment both Brazil and France won two consecutive tournaments, but Brazil will try and better that today.

If things do go to penalties, Spain may be more confident. Spain managed to score every single penalty they had in the shootout with Italy a few days ago, and their penalties were a showcase of how a shootout can be conducted and won. Spain have won their last three penalty shoot-outs, scoring 15 of 17 spot-kicks.

However, in Brazil's last penalty shootout they failed to even score one. They lost 2-0 in a penalty shootout to Paraguay in the Copa America 2011, missing all four penalty kicks they took.

Spain also had scored in 15 consecutive matches before their semi-final goalless draw with Italy. Spain are also unbeaten in 29 competitive matches coming into this game – winning 24 and drawing five of their last 29 games.

They are unbeaten in 26 games in all competitions, with their last loss coming against England in 2011.
