An untold number of Christians are reportedly rushing to the village of Kharodi near Mumbai in India to collect what they believe is miraculous "holy water" seeping from the feet of a statue of Jesus Christ on the cross.

The Mirror reported on Wednesday that police have been trying to control the masses of believers who are lining up with bottles to collect the liquid from the Jesus statue's feet.

Greg Pereira, a resident of the nearby town of Malwani, said: "The pictures and videos of the statue soon went viral as devotees from Andheri and Bandra rushed to the spot to check for themselves. We also saw people from far-off suburbs collecting holy water from the feet."

He added that Christians, who only make up a minority in India, have been seeping from nearby towns in hopes of seeing the alleged miracle on their own.

The statue is located outside the St. Anthony's Parish in Kharodi, which is a predominately Catholic village.

India Times reports that the liquid started to "mysteriously seep" from Jesus' feet earlier this month, with people believing that Christ was "trying to make His presence felt."

There have been several instances of reported "weeping statues" this past year, with worshipers at a university church in Honduras posting another video online showing a similar claim of a miracle in August.

The Christians at Campus Santiago Apostle said that a statute of the Virgin Mary had been "gently weeping," and posted their video evidence online.

Priest Juan Angel Lopez of the Iglesia Santo Domingo Savio Church in nearby Tegucigalpa said he is not sure what is going on, but does not believe the video was faked.

"I'm not saying it's true, I'm saying it's possible," the priest said back then.

"In this case, I suspect that there is no falsehood because I know people who run the Campus Santiago Apostle," he added. "I know the seriousness of people who have recorded the video and do not think they would fake it."

In another incident in January, a Catholic family in British Colombia, Canada, also reported that their Virgin Mary statue has been crying. The perceived miracle drew over 300 worshipers to their apartment to pray, reports said at the time.

There is no word yet on whether the Catholic Church in India plans to investigate the alleged miracle in Kharodi.
