Cissy Houston Writing 'Unbelievable Story' About Whitney's Life

Cissy Houston, the mother of late singer Whitney Houston who died last February after battling with drug addiction for years, is writing a tell-all memoir about her daughter.

The 78-year-old gospel singer recently signed a deal with Harper Collins that the publishing company said would reveal the "unabridged and unbelievable story" of the well-known singer and actress. Houston said she hoped to write the book to share her daughter's life with her fans who continued to contact the family.

"When I lost my daughter Nippy (Whitney Houston's nickname), the world lost one of the most beautiful voices and an extraordinarily beautiful and charitable woman," Houston said in a statement Monday. "In sharing our story in this book, I hope to give her fans something to treasure, the way we all treasured Whitney. We are still receiving thousands of letters each day from her fans, and I hope reading this book will provide a deeper understanding into my daughter's true story."

Houston's book will offer a candid account of her daughter's life, including her battle with drug addiction, according to a Harper Collins statement.

"She will tell the unabridged and unbelievable story of her daughter's life as well as her own, addressing Whitney's brightest and darkest moments while helping fans around the world understand the complexities of this extraordinary star who died much too soon," Harper Collins said. "Ultimately, Cissy will go behind the headlines to show the true, human side of this strong, successful yet complicated musical icon, capturing the dramatic depths and soaring range of an extraordinary woman, along with the pain and heartbreak of a grieving mother as she struggles with impossible loss."

Although the publishing company has not announced how much money Cissy was paid to pen the memoir, a portion of proceeds from the book's sale will reportedly go to New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, N.J., the house of worship where Houston used to attend. The book is set to reach stores next February, one year after the singer's untimely death.
