Ellen Degeneres and Kellie Pickler Talk 'Cancer Buddies' and Shaving Her Head (VIDEO)
Kellie Pickler stated that she feels it is important to have a "cancer buddy" during a recent interview on the Ellen DeGeneres' show in which she explains why she shaved her head.
Kellie Pickler is a country singer that first came to fame through the fifth season of "American Idol" although she finished in sixth place. Following her Idol debut in 2006, she signed on to a recording label and released "Small Town Girl" later that year. To date, the album has sold over 800,000 copies.
In more recent news, last week Pickler made headlines during the "Good Morning America" show as she opted to shave her head. The move was an act of solidarity to her support her childhood friend who was diagnosed with breast cancer.

On Friday, the star appeared on the Ellen DeGeneres show to offer more details about cutting her hair and in an effort to support breast cancer awareness.
"It's just hair!' the 26-year-old said on an episode that is set to air on Monday. "I will be honest with you, I was a little nervous and she was too. [We thought], 'I hope we don't have some crazy birthmark or wart or mole or something,' but we had fun."
Pickler's friend, Summer Miller, has known Pickler since they were teenagers, according to Mail Online. The site also reported that the friends met while doing a pageant circuit. According to Pickler, shaving her head was also about her grandmother, whom she reported had also been diagnosed with cancer.
"A lot of people don't know this but my grandmother passed away with cancer," she told Ellen. "It was a different type of cancer, but she passed away the very next morning after being diagnosed."
Pickler's grandparents played a big part in raising her due to the fact that both her parents were in and out of her life.
"I think it's important to have a cancer buddy," Pickler added. "Of course, it's hard. It's hard on your body, it's hard on your mind. It's not an easy thing to go through. But she's a strong woman and she's handled it with such grace."
Miller started chemotherapy last week.
