In addition to the traditional public declaration posted to a wooden easel right behind the gates of Buckingham Palace, the message was delivered in a press release that stated the baby was born at 4:24 p.m. local time, weighing eight pounds and six ounces.

"Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a son at 4:24 p.m.," it read. "The baby weighs 8lbs and 6oz. The Duke of Cambridge was present for the birth. The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry & families have been told and are delighted. Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well and will remain in hospital overnight."

However, the statement did not include the child's name.

Among those already privy to the details of the child's arrival is Queen Elizabeth II as well as the couple's parents; Prince Charles and Mike and Carole Middleton.

Furthermore, British Prime Minister David Cameron as well as other high-ranking officials know of the specifics about the child's arrival.

The wait is over for hundreds of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridges' fans, who planted themselves outside of both the Lindo Wing of St. Mary's Hospital and Buckingham Palace on Monday.

Middleton arrived at the hospital with labor pains early Monday morning.

In addition to keeping the gender of their child a secret until his arrival Monday, the royal couple has not yet revealed their child's name.

"Nobody knows what William and Kate are calling their baby or even if they have decided on a name," revealed a source close to the royals just weeks ago, according to E! News.

"They are being very careful to keep everything to themselves," the insider added. "The duke and duchess are taking their privacy very seriously. They are not speaking to anyone about these private matters."

Meanwhile, Twitter was flooded with messages of jubilation on Monday, with Kate Middleton, Prince William, Kensington Palace, #itsaboy, and #RoyalBabyWatch all trending on the social media site during the day.
