Kelly Preston on Breastfeeding: 'I Love the Closeness'

Kelly Preston, wife of John Travolta, is happy to be a mother again at the age of 49, and one particular part of parenting that she has confessed she enjoys is breastfeeding her 16-month-old son Benjamin.

"When I stop, it's going to be really hard on me," Preston told People. "I love nursing so much. I love the closeness and knowing that I'm giving him the best as far as nutrients and antibodies. And he really loves it, too."

Preston says, "He'll come up and point and go, 'Mama, more!' It's so cute!"

Benjamin arrived at a time when Preston and Travolta were grieving the loss of their 16-year-old son, Jett. He passed away in 2009 after suffering a seizure. In 2011 she told Health magazine that her faith in Scientology helped her move on from Jett's death.

"I don't know if I would have made it through without it [the Scientology Center]. We've been able to navigate through it and to come to a place that is a lot better," she said.

Baby Benjamin helped as well, too.

"I love being pregnant. I love the closeness I feel when I'm carrying them," she explained. "I love feeling them move inside me. It's pretty amazing to be having a child at this age. For a lot of people, getting older means you start slowing down. I don't think you have to."

"A lot of it is mindset."

Preston is in good company; several celebrity moms have spoken publicly about their love of breastfeeding. Mayim Bialik still breastfeeds her 3-year-old son Fred and says she wouldn't have it any other way. Jenna Elfman and Laila Ali, Preston's personal friends, both breastfeed their children.
