Lohan a No-Show in Court, Could Face Serious Jail Time

Lindsay Lohan was a no show in court today to face the allegations that she punched a partygoer in a nightclub. Prosecutors managed to delay the proceedings until Lohan is able to attend.

"From my understanding, Lindsay was being approached by a fortuneteller who sought to provide a reading her to and she politely said, 'I don't want to participate' and declined," Lohan's attorney, Mark Jay Heller, told reporters outside the courtroom.

"You would think if [Mitchell, the victim] was a fortune teller, she would have been able to see this happening in advance. But obviously her skills weren't that honed. Other individuals became very aggressive. Lindsay Lohan did not commit any crime; she did not assault anyone, all she did is verbally request her privacy," Heller concluded, according to ABC News.

Tiffany Ava Mitchell has alleged that Lohan hit her during the altercation on Nov. 29, and Lohan was arrested on a charge of misdemeanor assault. Mitchell did not seek medical attention but filed charges.

"I don't even know why [Lohan] pushed her," Mitchell's husband Wayne Stevens told ABC News. "And we didn't realize who it even was. Five minutes later she comes around and tells my wife, 'If I need space,' and then she just punched her."

Lohan has been on probation for nearly an entire year, due to allegations that she stole a necklace in 2011. After that, she was charged with lying about a car crash and received three misdemeanor charges. Now, with this case, Lohan is due back in court for a probation hearing on Jan. 15.

She could face serious time for violating probation, even if she does not do any time for the assault charges from November. Right now, the Manhattan District Attorney's Office is still investigating the case.

Lohan has also been in the media recently due to alleged financial problems, stemming from her failure to pay taxes. Charlie Sheen famously loaned Lohan nearly $100,000 to help her pay off her debt, New York Daily News reported, but she still has another several thousand to pay.
