New Braufnels Student Dies After Fist Fight; Teen Was Blindsided, Say Witnesses

A New Braufnels student died after a fist fight in Texas Tuesday, according to reports. 15-year-old Logan Davidson was leaving his class at Canyon High school when another student suddenly attacked him, knocking him out cold, and he died the next day.

The student who died after the fist fight was reportedly blindsided by his attacker at 9:30 a.m. that day, the New Braufnels Herald-Zeitung reported. Witnesses told police that Davidson had no chance to defend himself and was hit twice by another sophomore as he exited the classroom, according to KVUE news.

"This was an assault. The victim walked out of the classroom where the offender was waiting for him and assaulted him," Capt. John McDonald.

Canyon High School was locked down because of the incident. When paramedics arrived on the scene, they found Davidson unconscious and bleeding from facial wounds. He was airlifted to University Hospital in San Antonio hospital for treatment, but died Wednesday.

"It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of one of our Canyon High School students involved in Tuesday's altercation," Comal ISD Superintendent Andrew Kim said in a statement. "Our thoughts and prayers go to the families of both students involved and we will all work to protect their privacy during this difficult time. Campus and district counselors will be available throughout the week at CHS to assist students and staff process this shocking and tragic event."

The attacker's name has not been released because of their status as a juvenile. The student was taken to Guadalupe County Juvenile Detention Center and has been charged with aggravated assault. The charges could be upgraded to murder at the will of the district attorney.

No weapons were used in the fight, police said. The incident is still being investigated by the New Braufnels Police Department Criminal Investigations Unit.
