Snoop Dogg Arrested for Marijuana Smell on Tour Bus

Rapper Snoop Dogg was charged with a minor drug offense after border patrol officers at a checkpoint in Texas discovered cannabis on the tour bus he was in.

Hudspeth County sheriff's office in a statement that was released stated that Snoop Dogg, whose legal name is Calvin Broadus Jr., was arrested Saturday during a routine inspection at the Sierra Blanca highway checkpoint.

He was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor which is typical for cases involving small amounts of marijuana.

Reports from the sheriff’s office indicate that during the routine inspection a border patrol agent smelled marijuana coming from the tour bus. The agent then ordered everyone off the bus and searched the bus with the aid of a narcotics dog.

The officer discovered several marijuana cigarettes in a trash can along with a prescription bottle with just under one half-ounce of marijuana inside.

Broadus Jr. admitted the drugs were his and was released, the sheriff's office said.

Snoop Dogg’s agent did not release a statement or respond to requests for comments on Monday. In interviews, the rapper has claimed he has a prescription for medical marijuana use in his home state of California because he experiences migraines and blurred vision.

Texas has a zero-tolerance policy for drug possession even though he has a prescription for medical marijuana in California, that prescription is not recognized in Texas.

Snoop Dogg was issued a citation for misdemeanor drug possession and released. TMZ reported that if he is convicted on the drug charge, he could face up to 180 days in jail.

However, County Judge Becky Dean Walker said that paraphernalia citations are typically handled by justices of the peace in the county and that they usually are resolved with a no contest plea and a mailed-in fine of up to $500.

Country singer Willie Nelson was arrested in November 2010 for marijuana possession during an inspection at that same checkpoint.
