Tom Cruise Leaving Scientology To Reconcile With Katie Holmes?

Tom Cruise is reportedly reconsidering his involvement with the church of Scientology following his recent divorce from Katie Holmes according to reports.

The 50-year-old actor was reportedly blindsided when Holmes, his wife of five years, served him with divorce papers on June 28 and in a bid to potentially win her back, he is now said to be contemplating cutting ties with the controversial religion altogether.

"Now he's lost the most precious thing in his life, he sees that his Scientology beliefs may not have hurt his box office but have ended not one but two marriages," a source close to Cruise reportedly told The People.

"It was a terrifying and rude awakening for Tom when Katie served him with divorce papers. He's used to feeling undefeatable and untouchable. When he lost Katie he felt a failure," the source went on.

Cruise, a devout Scientologist, first became involved with Scientology in 1990 through his first wife, Mimi Rogers, and has since remained at the forefront of church affairs and he regularly promotes the church practice. He went on to marry actress Nicole Kidman before marrying Holmes, both women reportedly left due to his involvement with Scientology.

Holmes, who was raised Catholic, was reportedly concerned that Cruise would send their 6-year-old daughter Suri off to a radical Scientology group known as the Sea Organization, which prompted her divorce filing.

"He has lost Nicole and now his wife and daughter. He has always used the Scientology techniques but he has now realized they don't work in marriage," the source explained adding "If Tom truly leaves [Scientology], Katie would reconsider. She was in love with Tom, he was her childhood crush, it took a lot of strength to break free. But now she has peace of mind but no love."

The news comes less than one month after it was revealed that Cruise has already distanced himself from Scientology.

"Tom hasn't admitted that he's definitely leaving Scientology for good but he's distanced himself from those in the church and has been hanging out with good friends who aren't part of the religion," a source reportedly told Star Magazine.

"Tom's been leaning on friends who have different perspectives, getting advice on moving on from Katie as well as on everything he's been going through with Scientology," the alleged insider went on. "He's finally seeing that being such an advocate for Scientology hasn't served him as well as he'd hoped- he's gone through three divorces, and his public perception has sunk to an all-time low."
