Bin Laden was Planning to Kill President Obama
Al Qaida chief Osama bin Laden was plotting to attack targets in America and to take out President Barack Obama, according to documents retrieved from his hideout in Pakistan.
The terrorist was killed during a raid by U.S. Navy SEALs in Abbottabad, Pakistan in early May, and intelligence analysts have been sorting through the bevy of data found in his compound.
Bin Laden wanted to find a way to shoot down Air Force One or Marine One, the president's helicopter and plane, while Obama was on board, according to analysts.
Officials also explained that bin Laden wanted to fly a small plane into a sporting event to cause mass casualties, according to ABC News.
Gen. David Petraeus, commander of U.S. forces in Afghanistan, was also on the wish list of targets.
If bin Laden had his way, Petraeus would have been targeted with a helicopter or fixed wing airplane with a missile or rocket propelled grenade, according to officials.
The terror mastermind was reportedly hoping to carry out the attacks on the 10th anniversary of the September 11 attacks.
Bin Laden's discussions are said to have only been “aspirational” with no evidence pointing to any concrete plans to carry out an actual plot, CBS News reports. The discussions had primarily been centered on which operatives should participate if such attacks were carried out.
Officials cautioned, however, that due to counter-measures on crafts that transport high-level officials, like Obama and Petraeus, such an attack would not have had a very good chance of being successful.
