Duggar Family Helps Spread God's Word With Gift-a-Verse Christmas Initiative

This Christmas, the Duggar family joins The Seed Company in conjunction with OneVerse ministry in gifting a Bible verse to one of the more than 2,000 people groups who are still living without the Word of God.

Just one verse at a time, the ministry is hoping to eventually provide 340 million people with a complete Bible, which contains more than 31,000 verses, written in their own language.

The “Gift-a-Verse” initiative is jumpstarting that goal, allowing people to present a more meaningful gift to their loved ones this Christmas by sponsoring a much needed Bible verse in their honor.

“As a parent, one of the best gifts I can give my children is the gift of God’s Word,” Jim Bob Duggar of TLC’s “19 Kids and Counting” shared in a statement. “Through Gift-a-Verse, we are now able to amplify this gift by sharing the most important message on Earth with others in need across the globe.”

Within his own large family, Jim Bob explained that they had between 20-30 Bibles around the house, which he and his wife used to gain wisdom and insight into their life as well as find forgiveness and a relationship with God. He and his wife hoped that the same could be given to others as well.

“Since Christmas is about giving and celebrating God’s love, we are thrilled that The Seed Company has provided the perfect opportunity to join in the Great Commission to spread the Scriptures and share his Light wherever we can,” he shared.

The cost to translate a single verse of Scripture for a people group is $26. Sponsors could choose from four 5x7-inch Christmas Gift-a-Verse cards to give to their loved ones, and also select a particular people group they wish to help.

After their purchase, a code printed in the email receipt will give people the opportunity to see what verse they helped translate.

“Visualize the hope and new possibilities for [the recipients] as they begin their journey of discovering God’s Truth!” Jim and Michelle Duggar stated. “At the same time, imagine how you will surprise and bless your friend or loved one with this unique gift in their honor.”

The Gift-a-Verse initiative is not the first time the Duggars, an openly Christian family, joined The Seed Company in spreading the Word of God.

Earlier in June, they partnered with the ministry in order to teach children the joy of Bible storytelling through an interactive Bible study program called KidsDiscover, which they added to their website.

The program takes participants on a journey from creation to the early church, and features a time for evaluation after each weekly Bible study through vocabulary builders, challenge questions, games, downloadable worksheets, and team activities, among other things.

Now as they continue their work with The Seed Company, the Duggars desire to further provide families with the tools they need to grow closer to God, of which the Word of God is an absolute necessity.

“Even today, as Christmas 2011 approaches, there are more than 340 million people who still do not have the Bible in their language,” Roy Peterson, president and CEO of The Seed Company, stated.

“Gift-a-Verse represents a unique opportunity to share God’s love with family and friends this Christmas, and also enables those who are without Scripture to receive God’s Word in their own language.”

The Seed Company has been accelerating Scripture translation since 1993, when it was launched by Wycliffe Bible Translators.

The organization has since helped nearly 700 people groups in 84 countries around the world receive God’s Word for the first time in their language.
