Phaedra Parks Talks 'Extremely Hard' Time With Apollo Nida Divorce, Prison Sentence
Phaedra Parks, an Atlanta attorney and cast member of "The Real Housewives of Atlanta," is opening up about the difficulty she has had dealing with crimes committed by her estranged husband Apollo Nida that has resulted in him being sent to prison.
Nida is currently serving an eight-year prison sentence for bank theft and identity fraud charges, while Parks has been left to care for the pair's two young sons. While appearing on talk show host Ellen DeGeneres' show recently, Parks insisted she knew nothing about her husband's criminal activity.
"I really didn't. I work. I just got my fifth college degree," Parks said on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show." "I am pretty much an overachiever. I have two very small children."
While Parks insists she tried her best to help get Nida the best attorney, the couple is now divorcing. The attorney, author and budding mortician told DeGeneres that she tried to stand by Nida's side after he first called her with the news of his legal troubles, but said he later handled things negatively.
"There's been a lot of lashing out from Apollo," she told DeGeneres. "I think sometimes when people are hurting, they do things to hurt other people."
Parks admits that the hardest part for her, is watching her two sons potentially go through a tough time with their father in prison.
"It is extremely hard … My heart aches for my two sons. They are the heart and soul of who I am," Parks told DeGeneres. "That's the best thing we ever did together–we have great kids. I never wanted to do anything to diminish his character in public."
Before speaking to DeGeneres, Parks has remained relatively quiet about her marital issues. Parks previously spoke to "Good Day Atlanta" about why she has remained quiet about what is taking place in her home.
"A lot of times we're divulging too much information about everything. You go somewhere and people are telling you about their very intimate surgical procedures," she told "Good Day." "I don't want to know that you've had things removed, you've had things added. It's just certain things that should be a secret. I just don't want to hear about all that stuff."
