$99 HP TouchPad Sale: $99 TouchPad to be Ready by End of October (VIDEO)

Limited Supply Will Help Reduce Accessories Inventories

Hewlett Packard, Inc. will be hoping to outsell the Apple iPad at least for a while when it extends its release of HP TouchPad's at the end of October. This is to satisfy what they say is “unfulfilled demand” of the already discontinued device.

HP will release up to 200,000 TouchPad tablets, however, the company added, "We can’t promise we’ll have enough for everyone."

Trying to maintain relationships with its outlets, HP will produce the TouchPad units to help clear out store inventories of touch panels, batteries, and chassis.

The fire sale prices are $99 for the 16GB and $149 for the 32GB tablets, both set to become available by the end of October.

After the TouchPad buying frenzy across North America, a surprised HP said, "Despite announcing an end to manufacturing webOS hardware, we have decided to produce one last run of TouchPads to meet unfulfilled demand."

These giveaway prices may not be available at all retailers, either.

The HP blog it stated:

“Each retailer will manage their own policy and process regarding pricing and price matching. Please contact the local retailer of your choice to see what their current position is.”

Consumers also have the chance to snag a free TouchPad. Twenty of the tablets are being raffled off in a promotional contest for Hugh Jackman’s newest film, “Real Steel.”  Go to the HP Facebook page for more.
