$99 HP Touchpad Sale: Last Run of Tablets Arrives October (VIDEO)

HP To Capitalize on Past TouchPad Success

HP will be trying for volume sales as they put up to 200,000 HP TouchPad tablets on the market at $99 each. The tablets will compete directly with the Apple iPad and are scheduled to be delivered in October.

The Asian IT industry newsletter DigiTimes says HP will supply 200,000 TouchPad units, including touch panels, batteries, and chassis. That comes to about $20-million which should certainly cover the cost—and create an impact on a market the iPad thoroughly dominates.

Last Batch of $99 HP TouchPads Arrives October

The supply of HP tablets is limited. They have been selling in a slash price sale of $99 for the 16GB and $149 for the 32GB model. Although the HP tablets are expected at the end of October, HP has taken a cue from Apple marketing strategy and has not specified the exact date yet.

Following the highly successful $99 TouchPad fire sale, the device was completely sold out worldwide at retailers carrying the pads at hugely discounted price.

An HP press release previously announced, "Despite announcing an end to manufacturing webOS hardware, we have decided to produce one last run of TouchPads to meet unfulfilled demand."

However, the company added, "We can’t promise we’ll have enough for everyone."

HP also said it could not guarantee the cheap HP TouchPad price at every retailer.
