$99 HP TouchPad Sale: Thousands of New Units Coming This Month

The month of October will mark the worldwide shipment of 200,000 HP TouchPad's.

HP is said to have committed to this plan of action in order to help satisfy the "unfulfilled demand" of its loyal customers.

According to a DigiTimes report, HP will ship 200,000 TouchPad units, including touch panels, batteries, and chassis.

HP made a statement on its shipment of HP TouchPad's: "Despite announcing an end to manufacturing webOS hardware, we have decided to produce one last run of TouchPads to meet unfulfilled demand."

The limited supply of HP tablets were previously sold in a slash price sale of $99 for the 16GB model and $149 for the 32GB model.

Upon discontinuing the production of the HP TouchPad earlier this year, the company announced it would be flogging the tablet for a price as low as $99. That sparked an extraordinary reaction as consumers came out in droves to purchase the TouchPad at retailers and online.

Within days, stocks had been exhausted in the U.S., Canada and even in the U.K.

For months now, eager consumers who missed out on the previous sale have been eagerly awaiting a new release of the tablets.

However, it was announced that sellers would be now be given the ability to determine their own prices; some may opt not to sell the product at its $99 mark. That is a concern, especially considering the fact that many stores now know that a huge demand is there with only a limited number of units being made available in the final run of the HP TouchPad.

On the company’s blog it stated: "Each retailer will manage their own policy and process regarding pricing and price matching. Please contact the local retailer of your choice to see what their current position is."

However, the company added, "We can’t promise we’ll have enough for everyone."

Consumers continue to wait for HP to announce their specific plans, but they should expect an announcement within the coming weeks.
