Amy Winehouse Dead: Star Tried to Speak to Dr Drew Pinsky Before Death

According to celebrity psychiatrist, Dr. Drew Pinsky, Amy Winehouse tried to get in contact with him prior to her death on Saturday, July 23.

During a weekly phone call with the Kevin & Bean Show on KROQ Friday morning, Pinsky best known for his show “Celebrity Rehab,” revealed that according to Janice Dickenson the late Winehouse tried to reach out to him. He said that this explained the mysterious phone calls he kept receiving from Europe.

He told KROQ, “I found out also yesterday that believe it or not she was trying to contact me which was weird. Janice Dickenson told me that. I remember getting calls from Europe and thinking ‘what the hell is this?’”

Pinsky also gave his take on the singer’s untimely death aged just 27 in her London home, and referred to her family’s claim that she died because she stopped drinking alcohol too abruptly. He said that this claim was “a very interesting little theory.”

According to her family, the singer could have been the victim of a “shock” to the system after giving up such heavy drinking all at once three weeks ago.

People magazine reported that a close source to the family confirmed the alcohol withdrawal speculation.

“He [Amy's father, Mitch] said doctors had told Amy to gradually reduce her intake of alcohol and to avoid bingeing at all costs. Amy told him she couldn't do that. It was all or nothing, and she gave up completely ... Mitch said the shock of giving up, after everything she had been through over a bad few years, was just too much for her to take."

Pinsky explained that the theory that she went cold turkey on alcohol following years of addiction and that this caused her death, was not as simple as the family was making it sound. He suggested that anyone with alcohol abuse can “get really, really sick and you cease and you become encephalopathic and confused, and your heart becomes erratic.”

The cause of death of the popular singer has not yet been determined.
