Apple Producing Two Versions of the iPad 3
Apple is producing two different versions of its upcoming iPad 3 tablet.
According to technology website DigiTimes, Apple’s manufacturing contacts leaked information that Apple is currently prototyping two versions of the next-generation iPad.
It also revealed the two iPad’s are being produced under codenames J1 and J2 and that Apple is yet to decide which one it will officially launch.

Technology website 9to5Mac commented on one of the codenamed tablets.
“Based on code strings I have seen, the J2 iPad mentioned in the DigiTimes report is definitely an Apple device,” wrote the website.
“Based on DigiTimes accurately predicting the iPad 3’s codename, it seems at least somewhat plausible that the site’s attached rumors of a Retina Display and a dual LED-bar system to power this ultra high-resolution display are accurate,” added 9to5Mac.
DigiTimes also reported that Apple is attempting to make the new iPad thinner than the current version the iPad 2, while also raising its screen resolution to 2048x1536.
To complete this task, upstream component makers are concentrating on adjusting the device’s LED and panel module designs to implement this new structure for the iPad.
Even though DigiTimes failed to mention which device Apple would move forward for launch, 9to5Mac said the J2 is most likely a 3G model because it was listed alongside other CDMA iOS devices.
“The J2 iPad 3 being found in iOS 5 code means the device is actually in testing right now against an iOS 5 software release,” the website explained.
This codename has foated around since the initial betas of iOS 5.0, according to 9to5Mac.
