Billy Graham On Road to Recovery Following Health Scare, Assures Son Franklin

The Rev. Franklin Graham says his father, Billy Graham, is recovering well after his recent stint with pneumonia.

The famous evangelist is preparing for the holidays at his home near Asheville, N.C., Franklin Graham told CBS' "The Early Show" on Wednesday. According to the younger Graham, his father is the only person he knows that seems to enjoy hospitals and meeting people there. Billy Graham was hospitalized late last month.

Franklin Graham also said his father is working on a new book, although details about what is in the works has not been made immediately available.

Graham Sr. was released from Mission Hospital in Asheville, N.C. on Dec. 6, after six days of treatment and physical therapy.

In a statement released by Mission hospital after Graham’s discharge, the 93-year-old evangelist expressed his gratitude for all the thoughts and prayers he received during his stay.

“I also appreciated the wonderful treatment I received here from such caring doctors and nurses, and feel I have made some new friends,” said Graham. “But I am especially looking forward to seeing my home decorated for Christmas and spending the holidays with members of my family.”

Billy Graham spent five days in the hospital for treatment for the same condition in May.

In October, Billy Graham published his 30th book titled Nearing Home, a book about aging.

“All my life, I was taught how to die as a Christian,” Graham says in Nearing Home. “But no one ever taught me how I ought to live in the years before I die.”

Billy Graham has been spreading the Gospel for over 60 years. To date, Graham has met 12 U.S. Presidents.

Former First Lady Nancy Reagan presented Billy Graham with the Ronald Reagan Freedom Award in 2000.
