Black Friday 2011: Video Games the Top Item

As Black Friday draws near, giant retailers are offering discounts on virtually all types of items and video game.

Walmart, Radio Shack and Best Buy are all competing to grab gamers’ attention during the holiday season.

Walmart announced Thursday it will open its doors at 10 p.m. on Thanksgiving night due to customers requests. The video games sale start that night.

"Our customers told us they would rather stay up late to shop than get up early, so we're going to hold special events on Thanksgiving and Black Friday," said Duncan Mac Naughton, Walmart's chief merchandising officer in the United States, in a statement.

The retailer will offer the Xbox 360 4 GB Console along with Gears of War 3, a 3-Month Xbox Live Card and a $50 Wal-Mart eGift Card for $199.99. They are also taking $50 off the Xbox 360 Kinect Bundle with "Kinect Adventures," "The Gunstringer," and "Fruit Ninja Kinect."

Walmart will also offer three months of Xbox Live for $12. Not to be outdone, Best Buy is also having a massive video games sale. The electronics retailer will open doors at midnight. Their CEO Brian Dunn said the decision was not easy.

“I feel terrible," Dunn said. "It will change some Thanksgiving plans for our employees. It certainly changes mine."

The 4 GB Xbox with Kinect and a $100 gift card will be marked at $299. That is like getting a free $100 gift card, or two free games, because the normal price of a 4 GB Xbox with Kinect for $299.

The same goes for 250 GB Xbox with Kinect and a $100 gift card for $399. The standard price for the 250 GB Xbox is $399. However, with the $100 gift card, gamers are able to get more Xbox games and accessories for the new unit.

Radio Shack will not open as early but will offer discounts for gamers on Black Friday. The electronics retailer will open at 5:30 a.m.

The PlayStation 3 Holiday Bundle with "LittleBigPlanet 2" and "Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One" will sell for $199.99. The Xbox 360 4G B with Kinect Sensor will also go for $199.99.

Holiday retail sales are expected to rise 3 percent and 212 million people are projected to go shopping on Black Friday, spending around $39 billion, according to Shopper Trak.
