Box Office: What’s In Theaters This Weekend (TRAILERS)

This weekend’s theaters have a wide variety of offerings to movie-goers with the premiere of several highly-anticipated films.

The multi-million dollar “Twilight Saga” premieres “Breaking Dawn, Part 1” to theaters everywhere on Friday. The fourth installment stars Kristen Stewart, Rob Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner reprising their roles as Bella, Edward, and Jacob- respectively. The film will include the highly anticipated wedding scene between two of the main characters.

RottenTomatoes.com, the online film review service, indicates that “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 1” has received a score of 4.6 out of 10, and says that the film will only be enjoyed by “the ‘Twilight’ faithful,” and that it is strictly for fans of the franchise.

George Clooney stars in another weekend release, “The Descendants,” which has already received positive reactions from critics.

Clooney plays the father to two daughters who must re-examine his life after his wife suffers from a boating accident, set in Waikiki, Hawaii.

Clooney spoke to E! News about his movie competing with “Twilight” in theaters this weekend.

“There’s a lot of talk that we’re going to beat them,” said Clooney at the premiere of “The Descendants” in Beverly Hills Wednesday night. “We’re going against ‘Breaking Dawn,’ the big headlines come Monday will be, ‘Descendants’ Kicks the Hell Out of ‘Breaking Dawn.’”

“The Descendants” also stars Shailene Woodley from “The Secret Life of the American Teenager” and Amara Miller who will play Clooney’s 10-year-old daughter. The film was helmed by Alexander Payne who directed “Sideways.” Clooney is likely to receive Oscar nods for the upcoming film for his performance.

“Tyrannosaur” is a drama about an alcoholic who earns redemption from a Christian charity shop worker. The film stars Peter Mullan and Olivia Colman, and received 7.3 points out of 10 from Rotten Tomatoes critics.

Demi Moore appears in “Another Happy Day” alongside Ellen Barkin. The family drama premieres in theaters Friday. Watch the trailer here.

For kids, “Happy Feet Two” hits theaters Friday, the follow-up of the original Oscar-winning film. Available in 3-D, the movie follows the charismatic group of Antarctic penguins from Warner Bros.

Rotten Tomatoes rates the film with 5.8 points out of 10, and critics commented on the film via the website.

“97 minutes of nonstop joy,” wrote Richard Corliss of Time magazine.

The international drama “Tomboy” is also being offered in theaters this weekend. The Celine Sciamma-directed movie follows a French family with two daughters; one of which is mistaken as a boy. The gender confusion during childhood portrayed by the film’s actors is “nothing less than brilliant,” according to Rotten Tomatoes.

This week’s new films join previously-released top box office sellers, such as “J. Edgar,” “Immortals,” and “Puss in Boots.”
