Carrie Underwood Necklace and Dress Steals Grammys With Projectors

Carrie Underwood has blended style with technology during the 55th annual Grammy Awards Sunday night.

The country music star not only took home an award during the night, but also delivered a performance that has everyone talking.

While singing her hit song "Blown Away," Underwood took the stage in a white satin gown that literally lit up. Images were actually digitally projected onto her dress during the performance, creating an optical illusion that wowed audience members and television viewers alike.

"They can do a lot of amazing things with projectors these days," said the singer backstage. "We had a dress especially made."

"I said I should take that home and we can watch movies on it at home," Underwood added jokingly. "You wanna watch movies on my dress?"

The innovative gown required four people, 80 hours, and 10 yards of satin, according News On 6.

Underwood revealed that she stood barefoot on an apple crate in order to achieve the exact height for the images during the dressmaking process.

"It took a lot of precision," Underwood explained to Entertainment Tonight. See images taken during her performance here.

During the awards ceremony, the singer earned the Grammy Award for Best Country Solo Performance with her song "Blown Away," marking her sixth Grammy trophy. Underwood thanked the audience and stated "Glory be to God" during her acceptance speech.

In addition to her impressive gown, Underwood wowed fans on the red carpet earlier wearing jewelry that was valued at a whopping $31 million.

Johnathon Arnd designed the jewels. Underwood's necklace alone featured 381 carats of oval, pear, marquis, and round brilliant white diamonds, according to a press release by the jeweler.

The country music singer was not the only artist causing a stir with her fashion choices on Sunday. Katy Perry donned a mint-green dress that became a trending topic on Twitter during the awards show.

"I was inspired by Priscilla Presley in the '70's," Perry explained of her evening look while speaking to E! News during the event.

This year marked the first time CBS issued a dress code demanding that stars "please be sure that buttocks and female breasts are adequately covered." Many celebrities did not follow the network's suggestion.

Kelly Rowland sparked controversy with her sheer black George Chakra gown.

"I thought about the dress code, and I thought about it again," Rowland joked, according to New York Daily News. "I respect it. See, I wore clothes."
