'A step forward' or 'contradictory'? Catholic reactions to approval of blessings for LGBT couples

While most responses to "Fiducia Supplicans" featured praise or condemnation, pro-life activist and practicing Catholic Lila Rose had a different reaction to the declaration focusing on what she viewed as a misrepresentation of the facts.
In a Dec. 19 post on X, Rose insisted that "the Pope has not approved blessings for same-sex sexual relationships."
"Those running headlines saying as much are either confused themselves or intentionally misleading others to cause confusion," she added. "Blessings have always been freely given to every person — and never given to sin."

The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops says the declaration makes a "distinction between liturgical (sacramental) blessings, and pastoral blessings, which may be given to persons who desire God's loving grace in their lives."
"The Church's teaching on marriage has not changed, and this declaration affirms that, while also making an effort to accompany people through the imparting of pastoral blessings because each of us needs God's healing love and mercy in our lives," a USCCB statement reads.
