Ciara Harris may be known for her sultry R&B tunes, but the singer has turned to gospel music to help her overcome tough times.

"I lost my grandfather four years ago: He had cancer and was gone really fast. I can still cry on the spot when I think about what happened to him," Ciara told Billboard. "I listened to 'Never Would Have Made It' by Marvin Sapp. It's very therapeutic. What better song to put things in perspective and know that God is always with you?"

Since Ciara, 30, began dating Christian Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson earlier this year, she has been more vocal about her faith. In July, Wilson, 26, revealed that God told him to lead Ciara in a vow of celibacy which could also ultimately bless other people.

"I asked her 'What would you do if we took all that other stuff off the table and did it Jesus' way, no sex? ... I knew God had brought me into her life to bless her and for her to bless me, and to bless so many people with the impact that she has and I have," Wilson said at The Rock Church in San Diego, California. "We're not going to be perfect, by any means. But He's anointed both of us and He's calling for us to do something special."

In defense of Wilson's public announcement about his relationship with Ciara, The Rock Church's senior pastor Miles McPherson wrote a blog that answered the question, "Did God really speak to [Russell Wilson]?"

"When God directs a man to be a leader in his relationship and home, He is directing him to take the initiative to serve his family," the pastor wrote. "God has not directed people to control people. That's called abuse and slavery. Being the leader means being the servant, not the boss."

On "The Meredith Vieira Show" earlier this month, Ciara opened up about the spiritual bond that she and Wilson had.

"It's honestly a spiritual thing for us. Our love for God, our love for one another and just wanting to really know each other and grow with each other and letting it be about that at the base of it all," she said on the talk show. "I think if you really, truly have a friendship, you can kind of conquer everything in the relationship. So that's our goal!"

While the future of Ciara and Wilson's relationship has yet to be determined, the singer says she is not worried since God is in control.

"I feel very confident in the love that we have for each other, and only God knows where it's going to go," the 29-year-old singer previously told Page Six. "God knows everything that's to come in the future, and I think it's best to let Him keep taking control of things. Life is sweet, and I'm very thankful for all the great things happening in my life. I'm very happy."

Aside from relishing her romantic life, Ciara is a mother to a 1-year-old son named Future Zahir Wilburn whom she shares with the rapper Future. She previously spoke about her son being a gift from God.

"Honestly, I feel like everything in life happens for a reason and my son has been the greatest gift that God has given me in my life and been the most game-changing thing that's happened to my life, in a necessary way," she said on Power 105.1 FM's syndicated radio show, "The Breakfast Club" earlier this year.
