Dark Knight Rises: New Catwoman Picture Released

Anne Hathaway will be playing Catwoman in the highly anticipated “The Dark Knight Rises” Batman film, and the first image of her in action during filming has been released on the internet.

Fans have been anticipating the new film ever since Catwoman was announced to appear in the movie, and have been wondering how Christopher Nolan would adapt the character to his already successful series.

It is not clear whether the picture released is actually Anna Hathaway as Catwoman or as Selina Kyle the true identity of Batman’s villain/ally.

She seems to be sporting some kind of high tech head gear which may replace her signature cat ears she usually sports throughout the Batman comic book, television shows and in Michelle Pfeiffer’s version of the character in the 1992 film “Batman Returns.”

She also is riding Batman’s Batpod that he uses in “The Dark Knight” in the picture which alludes to her stealing some of his most prized possessions in the new film. It can also lead fans to believe she becomes Batman’s ally somewhere along the lines.

Selina Kyle’s first comic book appearance was in “Batman #1” in 1940 as The Cat. She goes on to be an adversary/love interest for Batman throughout the years. In 1954 she was removed from the comic due to the newly developing Comics Code Authority. The CCA claimed that Kyle violated a code regarding the portrayal of female characters in comics.

She returned in 1966 and has been a consistent character in the Batman universe ever since.

Catwoman was played by Julie Newmar, Lee Meriwether and Eartha Kitt in the 1960’s Batman television series and by Michelle Pfeiffer in “Batman Returns.”

Halle Berry also took on the role of the character in 2004’s “Catwoman,” but the version she played was loosely based on the Batman one.

Anne Hathaway will now take on the role as she stars alongside Christian Bale in “The Dark Knight Rises” which is supposed to be the final film in the Batman reboot series.
