Demi Moore to Star in 'Lovelace' (VIDEO)

Demi Moore is the latest actress to sign onto “Lovelace,” a new biopic about Linda Lovelace. Amanda Seyfried will play the title character, while Moore will portray activist Gloria Steinem. Other notable stars include Hank Azaria, Chris Noth, Sharon Stone and Juno Temple.

“Lovelace” tells the story of Linda Boreman, who went by the name Linda Lovelace during her career. Boreman became famous for her role in “Deep Throat,” an adult film that gained much success in 1972. This was the first adult film that was reviewed by The New York Times.

Boreman claimed that husband Chuck Traynor forced her to do pornography. “When in response to his suggestions I let him know I would not become involved in prostitution in any way and told him I intended to leave, [Traynor] beat me up physically, and the constant mental abuse began.”

She added, “I felt like garbage. I engaged in…pornography against my will to avoid being killed… The lives of my family were threatened.”

Boreman and Traynor divorced in 1974, the same time she met producer David Winters, who she credited with helping her stop making pornography. She joined the anti-pornography movement in 1980, working with activists Andrea Dworkin and Gloria Steinem.

Moore, who portrays Gloria Steinem, is herself an activist. She and ex-husband Ashton Kutcher are the founders of the Demi and Ashton Foundation, which seeks to end child sexual slavery. Its mission says, “We are committed to forcing sex slavery out of the shadows and into the spotlight. Freedom is a basic human right and slavery is one of the greatest threats to that freedom. No one has the right to enslave another person.”

Boreman died in 2002, at the age of 53, after suffering severe trauma from a car accident. She has been the focus of several films, documentaries, and books. This latest film is due out in 2012.
