Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, a Republican who ran against Trump during the 2024 GOP presidential primary, revealed his state would conduct its own investigation into the assassination attempt in Florida. During a Monday news conference, DeSantis said he believes there were "multiple violations of state law."

On Sunday, the Florida governor wrote in a Sunday X post that the public deserves answers about how the shooter was able to get so close to the president at the golf course.

"We also believe that there's a need to make sure that the truth about all this comes out in a way, you know, that's credible," DeSantis said during a news conference Monday, according to The Orlando Sentinel. "I mean, I look at the federal government, with all due respect to them, those same agencies that are prosecuting Trump in that jurisdiction are now going to be investigating this?"
