Dwight Howard Apologizes to Fans Amid Backlash, 'Nightmare' Season

Dwight Howard, 27, made it clear that he was unhappy with his season as a Los Angeles Laker and fans returned the favor after the center was ejected and his team was swept out of the playoffs Sunday.

Howard was ejected from Sunday's game after receiving his second technical foul after halftime with his team trailing by more than 20 points in game four of the series against the San Antonio Spurs. Although the Spurs eventually swept the Lakers after besting them 103-82 Sunday, many looked to blame Howard for the team's lost playoff hopes.

The center took to Twitter early Monday morning to apologize to fans amid the backlash that he was getting on the social networking website.

"I'm still upset about tonights game and the way this season ended. Im mad I lost my cool. I'm sorry for letting my team and our fans down when ... they needed me the most," Howard tweeted. "If there's one thing I've learned this year its that I need to be more responsible for my actions and learn to ... 'breathe'!"

A number of fans took to Twitter to make "#dwighthowardismoreuselessthan" a trending topic on the social networking website after the Lakers were swept Sunday for the first time since 1967.

"#dwighthowardismoreuselessthan the white crayon in the box of 48, one user wrote.

Another individual followed the same sentiments.

"#DwightHowardIsMoreUselessThan the k in knee," the person tweeted.

Still, some felt fans were being too hard on the guard who came off of back surgery to start his Lakers season after playing his entire career in Orlando.

"That's a pretty mean tweet," one person tweeted. "I bet all the people who didn't make it to the nba are tweeting."

After the game, Howard admitted that he lost his cool, and called his time with the Lakers a nightmare after being picked up for the 2012-2013 season.

"It's like a nightmare, it's like a bad dream and we couldn't wake up out of it," Howard said after the game, according to ESPN. "That's what it felt like. It seemed like nothing could go right from the start, injuries and all that stuff, but we can get an opportunity to get some rest for guys who are injured, coming off injuries. A chance to rehab and think about what we can all do to better ourselves."
