Ellen DeGeneres Ad: One Million Moms Boycott JC Penney Over 'Gay Activist' Christmas Ad? [VIDEO]

A Ellen DeGeneres ad for JC Penny's Christmas campaign has the conservative media watchdog group One Million Moms, a part of the Christian-based American Family Association, angry over the appearance of a "strong gay activist" in the commercial. One Million Moms initially called for a boycott over DeGeneres' appearance but now says they are not taking further action.

DeGeneres, a spokeswoman for JC Penney and outspoken lesbian, is featured in a Christmas commercial in which she chats with Santa's elves at a diner about a holiday giveaway contest. The elves bemoan over whether they have to make gifts for every person who gets a button from stores.

One Million Moms, which has targeted JC Penney's use of DeGeneres before in other alerts, issued a statement Tuesday on its website:

"Since April, JC Penney's has not aired Ellen DeGeneres in one of their commercials until now. A new JCP ad features Ellen and three elves. JCP has made their choice to offend a huge majority of their customers again. Christians must now vote with their wallets," the group announced.

But on Thursday, One Million Moms director Monica Coles told The Christian Post that they are not doing anything more than the alert based on the Ellen DeGeneres ad.

"We're not taking action, we're moving on. We've already contacted the company," said Coles of the Christian mom activist group.

She described DeGeneres as a "strong gay activist," but said the alert was protested the gay agenda, "not any one person or company."

Earlier this year, One Million Moms urged JC Penney to fire DeGeneres as their spokesperson.

"Funny that JC Penney thinks hiring an open homosexual spokesperson will help their business when most of their customers are traditional families," the group stated in February.

"DeGeneres is not a true representation of the type of families that shop at their store. The majority of JC Penney shoppers will be offended and choose to no longer shop there," One Million Moms continued.

They then called on the nationwide retailer to "replace Ellen DeGeneres as their new spokesperson immediately and remain neutral in the culture war."
