Facebook No. 1 Website; 1 Trillion Page Views

The numbers are in. In June 2011 Facebook amassed a whopping 1 trillion page views, more than any other site on the World Wide Web, according to statistics released by Google's DoubleClick Ad Planner.

In addition, the site also totaled over 870 million unique visitors over the same time period, giving it a 46.9 percent reach among web surfers.

“Reach” is defined as the percentage of total Internet users that come in contact with a certain website.

Interestingly, Facebook has approximately 750 million users, so how were they able to attract another 120 million to their number of unique visitors?

TIME magazine's Techland reports that this numbers discrepancy could be due, in part, to those who aren't members of the social media network but visited the site by following links that appeared in either search engines or other sites.

The runner-up to the social media juggernaut for the month of June was YouTube. Though the video site brought in just a tenth of Facebook's total page views, 100 billion, it had only 80 million fewer unique visitors. That is over 90 percent of the number of unique visitors that Facebook boasts, giving the online video site an excellent 42.6 percent reach among web users.

Rounding out the top five in unique visitors behind the video site were Yahoo! (590 million), Live.com (540 million), and Wikipedia (460 million).
