Fantasia Barrino Talks God Helping Her Overcome Struggles

Fantasia Barrino, the 28-year-old singer, recently spoke about being blessed despite her struggles that have been made public.

Barrino released a new single earlier this year titled "Lost to Win" and described what the song meant to her in an interview with Philadelphia radio station WDAS FM.

"When I recorded lose to win, that song wasn't just about a relationship ... and I think when people hear it as well they don't just think of a relationship," Barrino said on the radio station. "They think of somebody might have lost a job, a home, a family member. In that moment when you're losing you think, 'Oh my God. If I can just find one person to lean on.'

The singer revealed that God put her through struggles for a reason.

"I always say I feel like I lost all of those things for God to put the right things in my life and I feel like I'm winning again," Barrino said. "Finally. And this time I know how to protect it and I know how to take care of it."

After winning the third season of the nationally televised singing competition "American Idol" in 2004, Barrino said she is blessed to continually be supported by fans despite her shortcomings.

"I don't want to walk around like a cartoon character or something fake or like nothing happens in my life," she said.

"Ever since I stepped onto 'Idol' I was open. I was the only young lady I think that was without my high school diploma. I had a child at a young age. So my story was kind of different from everybody elses," Barrino recalled. "It wasn't a perfect story, but the people who were watching, they could relate ... It's been 10 years and people have been rocking for me and praying for me."

Barrino has never shied away from being honest about her emotions and reportedly broke down while performing on her 28th birthday in Trinidad. Barrino reportedly performed in front of hundreds of fans in the Port-of-Spain section of the Caribbean country last summer while admitting that she had been through a great deal.

Still, Barrino told her fans that she was blessed.

"I have to tell God thank you because He has blessed me. Just when I thought it was all over, He kept blessing me," Barrino told her audience, according to the Trinidadian Guardian newspaper. "He's always been there. I made it through because of God ... Everything I went through is my testimony."

However, the singer said she is happy these days and ready to take on whatever God has planned for her life.

"I always say whatever God has for me I'm going to try. I'm going to do it. Because all of the things that I've done I never thought I would do," Barrino told WDAS FM. "I never thought I would have a Lifetime movie out or a bestselling book, then Broadway and 10 years still standing with all I've been through. This is my fourth album so I'm pretty blessed."
